Studies in sociology and anthropology. His researches focus on work and workers’ consciousness; relation of caste and labour; jobless youth and their ideologies and life histories; Hindu nationalism through the approach of the Shiv Sena; Mumbai and situations of rurbanity; Hindu-Muslim violence; fishermen of the Ganga in relation to notions of work, environment and religion.
